703280     3 Fruit Realistics Goofies Orange Apple Pear Buttons

This is 3 realistics or goofies. This group is an apple, orange and a pear. They have great detail. The orange skin has the embossed dimples or pours like a real orange and all 3 pieces have embossed leaves and painted highlights. I thought these were plastic at first, but I noticed some identical fruit that were made of glass in a book I read. Those buttons were shown in a circle and on the lower portion there is the orange, pear and apple. Mine are slightly cold to the touch and when you shake them together they sound like glass. The diameter of the round fruit is about 1/2".

703259     Rhinestone Button Flower Design 1 1/8 /28.57mm

Rhinestone button with a flower like design. This is similar to the rhinestone buttons shown on page 153 of "Button Button" by Peggy Osborne. The center stone is brilliant. There are 9 petals with molded silver color metal and rhinestones at the end of each petal. The inside of the petals have a round molded metal ball like a small pearl with 3 tiny balls like seed pearls. The design on these petals with the metal work has a 1920s look. The only problem I see is that 2 of the larger pearl size balls on the petals have tiny holes in them. The holes are so small, they are not very noticeable. This must have been made with a very thin metal. I have 3 other buttons like this and they all have this problem. It could possibly be a factory flaw or design error. The diameter is 1 1/8" (28.57 mm).

703258     Prong Set Rhinestone Button 3/4" / 19.05mm

The shank has 2 loops pinched together. This button measures 3/4" (19.05mm). This is similar to the rhinestone buttons shown on page 153 of "Button Button" by Peggy Osborne. The center of this rhinestone button is pronged set, the other rhinestones are set in metal. The shank has 2 pressed metal loops pinched together, which is a little different than most shanks I have seen. This measures 3/4" (19.05mm). I am also listing another rhinestone button with different detail. One of my pictures shows both together for comparison, but only the smaller one is for sale with this auction.

703252     Dark Coral ColorBrass Center Pin Shank Waistcoat Button

This waistcoat button has a dark coral center with a brass embossed star shaped piece within the center. This is also attached and is part of the shank on the underside and goes through the button itselt. When the shank is pushed, the star on top raises up a bit. This could be what is known as a "pin-shank", described as a metal shank that went right through the body which can be distinguished by the small knob of metal atop the button. This was so described in Peggy Osborne's book Button Button on page 30. This could be from the early to mid 1800s. The outside rim is also embossed brass. This measures 15/32" diameter (11.92 mm). The dark coral portion has wear.

703250     Silver Color Metal Button Roman Soldier & Lady 21/32"

This is a silver color embossed button with the heads of a Roman Soldier and Female. Do not know who they represent. The underside is black with a brass shank. It measures 21/32". l6.67 mm. It looks like the silver is pressed on over the black base. This button has a lot of detail for the small size, so my picture does not show it very good. The Roman soldier is on the right side, but you can hardly make it out.

301241     This is an original print from a magazine entitled Godey's Fashions for March 1868 by Kimmel & Forster N.Y. It has five ladies in a beautiful lovely dresses of the day. The back of the outfits have such beautiful detail and are shown on all but two of the ladies. One lady is dressed in black with blue accents, another dressed in black with orange accents, a third in a beautiful pale green, one in purple and the last one in sort of a tan or camel color. The child is also dressed in the same tan color. The condition is fairly good for its age, and since it had been part of a magazine, there are some rips where the 3 sew holes on the left side had been and there is a crease in the center where it had folded out. The edges have some folds and rough spots.

There is a small boy dressed in a royal blue outfit. 301239     This is an original print from a magazine entitled Godey's Fashions for January 1868 by Kimmel & Forster N.Y. The Kimmel name is very lightly printed. It has two ladies in a beautiful bride's dresses. The other 3 ladies have beautiful outfits of blue, tan with peacock blue and purple. There is also a child dressed in white (or grey) with red trim. The condition is fairly good for its age with some age discoloration or water stains (which are very light), and since it had been part of a magazine, there are some rips where the 3 sew holes on the left side had been and there is a crease in the center where it had folded out. The edges have some rough spots.

301238     This is an original print from a magazine entitled Godey's Fashions for June 1868 by Kimmel & Forster. It has one lady in a beautiful bride's dress, and another lady in a gown made with layers of white lace and purple fabric, possibly a maid of honor. The other 3 ladies have beautiful outfits of aqua, brown and purple. The condition is very good with some age discoloration, and since it had been part of a magazine, there are the 3 sew holes on the left side where it had been sewn into the magazine and the crease in the center where it had folded out. The edges all look to be intact which is unusual for these prints.

301225     This is a cute miniature sampler measures 2" by 3 1/2". It was done on a paper grid and has a cluster of flowers decorating it. This could be cute framed or just placed with a collage of sewing items. It would also be the right size framed for a doll house. This probably dates from the late 1800s to 1915.

301218     Nice small black and white check silk Victorian pin cushion shaped like a fancy pillow with tassles in the corners. The back part is maroon. There is a small split in the front, and several holes in the back on the maroon side. It measures 3 1/2" by 2 3/4". This would also look nice on a small doll's bed as a decorator pillow.

301217     I have seen several of these pincushions with Chinese babies holding hands around a cushion, but I have never seen one so small. It would be nice to go with other doll size sewing items. There are only 4 babies and it measures only 2" across where the hands meet and 2 1/2" across where the heads protrude out a little. The cushion is a nice aqua satin and the 4 babies are dressed in light and dark blue, pink and yellow. Most of these pincushions usually have an 8" diameter or so and with about 10 babies around the edge, which makes this one perfect for a doll. The condition is very good. The paper label at the bottom just says "Made in China".

211290     This is an original double page print from the March 1867 Peterson's Magazine showing Paris fashions of the day. The page was engraved and printed by Illman Brothers and is titled "Les Modes Parisiennes Peterson's Magazine". Ther is some discoloration, possibly water stains, but not that bad, one side is rough and it appears that someone started to cut out one of the ladies. The cut follows the ruffle through to the shoe on the lady to the far right. Nothing is missing, it is just the cut. This still could be framed and make an interesting picture in a Victorian room. The print shows 4 ladies in lovely fashions of the 1860s and wearing fashionable hats and bonnets of the day. Two of the ladies are in different shades of blue, one in yellow and the last in black with blue highlights. She is also wearing a stove pipe hat which is rather unusual to see on a woman. But, there are horseback riders in the background, so I imagine that her attire was what was suitable for riding. The background is all black and white engraving. It measures 11 3/4" by 9 3/4".

110080     I believe it was knit to be a dollhouse miniature area rug as it came with other rugs; but it could be a doily. It would be a great throw rug for a lacy bedroom. It is a nice heavy material making it good for a throw rug. It is about 5" diameter and in very good condition..

Price: $3.00

109068     Small piece of old crochet work measuring 6" by 15". This would make an interesting piece for craftwork. Possibly the top border of a Christmas stocking to work in with a crazy quilt. With a small ribbon running through it would make a nice doll's apron or overskirt or collar.

109064     This nice old strip of crochet is 37" long and 2 1/2" wide. It has a simple design of what looks like a basket weave in the shape of a diamond. The edges are sewn together, so this had probably been part of something else. My guess on the age would be 1910 to 1930. I do not want to unstitch the ends as it might unravel.

109062     This is a nice sturdy piece of 1/4" lace or trim, 2 yards long and is similar to the lace trim used on the early manufactured chemise dresses worn by bisque dolls at the turn of the century. It is sort of a heavy cotton lace or trim with a nice design that is similar to tatting. I do not know the age, but I would think it is from 1910 to 1950.

105105     This lot consists of 4 embroidered quilt blocks, two are adorable quilt blocks embroidered in pink with Kewpie as the subject. The other two are geometric with cross stitch designs and would make a nice wall hanging or doll quilt if all 4 were sewn together. On one block, Kewpie is playing the saxophone horn and the other just shows Kewpie reading a book. The two quilt squares with geometric designs are each different than the other, and both are very pretty. All 4 would also look good in separate frames and hung on a wall. I am sure they would all look nice in a variety of ways. They are made with a dark pink embroidery thread on white..
